Isn't it amazing that some 60 years later and with all the advancements that have been made in machining and manufacturing technology, the early 110's are far superior to the current stuff coming out of Savage. So much for progress. lol

That vintage 110 I worked on all last winter was smooth as butter and fed better than any rifle I've ever owned except perhaps my Tikkas. Those are sweet actions alright.

I got all stupid and was going to re-barrel my early 110L .30-06 with a varmint 6mm.
The more I thought about how graceful that featherweight .30-06 barrel is, the less I want to ruin the whole package!
Looks like my .270 Interarms MarkX gets the nod.

Mine had that featherweight '06 barrel with the rear sight bulge. Very classy and very light. Handled like a dream. Too bad it was shot out. :(

Cannot date from serial number, look for the oval barrel stamp with 2 digits and a letter, the letter will ID year of manufacture. With 5 digits I'd guess your barrel stamp to be a late "J" or "K"

My early 110 wears a 4-digit serial number, 107X, and an "I" barrel stamp.

The oval marking on the barrel is:

- a " 5 " or an " S " ( I think its a " 5 " ), followed by what looks like a " T "

What year does that make her ? Not that it matters. She shoots insanely accurate. Has the original Weaver 3x scope ( had hinged scope mounts that I tossed for fixed mounts. This gun has replaced my 'ole faithful, a Marlin 336 in .35 ( the first gun my Dad bought all his sons ).

I have shot more deer in the heart with the 110 than I thought possible. Always makes me look good ?!

That's probably "SP" for Savage Proof also inside an oval. Look for a second oval containing 2 digits and a letter, can see mine here - https://www.savageshooters.com/showthread.php?55031-Old-110-with-4-digit-serial-number

Letter “J” indicates production date year of 1958 I believe. Phil will double check me.(He knows more about it than I)

Thanks all ! Great gun ! Loves to kill deer ! Initially, when I first started to shoot this gun, the firing pin was shot ( not sure if it was the spring or the pin ). Replaced the spring and pin ( hard to find the old style pin ). I believe Numrich had it. Since then, its been a thing of beauty. I was lucky to be given such a fine tool.

Oh yeah...I knew it was the older trigger. I have the schematics here now. No, I hadn’t seen that one.... Until yours! :surprise:
But I done seen ‘em now! Only takes one.

Anyway, I guess one could have a problem. But he’ll guys... I’m doing this stuff with ONE FRIGGEN hand, for greif’s sake! And I don’t have a problem.
That early safety bar has a screw in it to take up slack in the bar to groove fit and greatly ease the operation of the safety.
