I just move to WY and have been looking at doing a prairie dog shoot.
I have this Stainless lefty .308 model 10 that I barrel swapped to .260 that I put together many years ago. I considered loading light and shooting the .260, but so many people have told me to use a 22 caliber.
What is involved in a 22-250 swap for my current action?
Should I invest in another caliber?

I think all you need is a barrel swap. I converted a 243 action to 22-250 and that’s all I did, of course used go/ no go gauges for 22-250.

Indeed. Just a barrel swap.

Man. I can’t imagine changing out my beloved 260Rem....Save except for doing a 260AI on my next barrel that is. But good luck.

I 've tipped over a few P-dogs in the Dakotas. Lots of wind to contend with.
I was using a loaned 243, and glad I was. With the right twist, a 6XC or a
6mm Creedmoor, it's what I would choose. If you decide on the 22-250 route
get a faster twist to shoot the 77gr Sierra SMK's and someone to spot for you.

What range(s) do you expect to shoot pdogs at??? A 223 might suffice and won't be a barrel burner unless you just want a barrel burner. Or a 6x 45?????

I've got a pdog kill at just over 500 yds in SD, no red mist or aerobatics, but I did put a hole in it. LOL..

I too shoot LH and have put together LH rifles this year. The first I bought local, a mdl 11 in 308, I put a SS Shilen Select Match 24" varmint contour 1-12 twist 22-250. The second was a mdl 10 action with a SS Shilen Select Match 24" 1-9 twist in 260 Remington. Both rifles shoot very well and finished out just under 9 1/2 pounds ready to hunt with.

I'll echo what has already been posted. Buy a barrel and the necessary tools to change them, win, win in my book. It'll only take 15-20 minutes to complete the job at most.
