Hello!
By way of introduction, what can I say? It was a slow Sunday afternoon in Eastern PA today and I suddenly found myself the successful online bidder for a nice looking 110 (cal. 30-06) today (LiveAuctioneers). Looks like an older production in great shape for its age, with only a 4-digit non-alphanumeric serial number. Don't even have it yet, but spoke to a more knowledgeable friend who had good things to say about it. Anyway, I know practically nothing about it but am interested to hear about any suggestions, special recommendations, or peculiarities I should be aware of, once it arrives (probably won't be for a couple weeks, at least).
Happy to be on board!

Thank you! Appreciate any special information helpful to know regarding care, use, or maintenance of a 1958 Savage 110- seems to be in great shape, especially for its age. Threw a Vortex Crossfire II 4-12/44 scope on it with Kwik-Site see-through mounts to use original sights at closer range; plan is to use it for deer hunting.

Welcome Jeepster and congrats on your pre-66 110! There is a small group of pre-66 110 owners here, myself included with #71. You can ID the year of manufacture by looking for an oval stamp on the left side of the barrel containing 2-digits and a letter. The digits are the inspector's ID and the letter will ID year of manufacture, an "I" is 1957 and "J" 1958. All 110s manufactured prior to 1966 are unique unto themselves, unique magazine, unique barrel and stock, unique bolt assembly, 2 position safety, but many consider them a higher quality rifle than later models.

Thanks Phil- This one says "20J" in the left oval and "SP" in the right.

Thanks Phil- This one says "20J" in the left oval and "SP" in the right.
The oval with SP means Savage caliber proofed the barrel. "J" tells you it was manufactured in 1958. :thumb:

Whereabouts are you located? I'm just South of Phily myself. Let me know if you ever need a helping hand...literally! Cause I only got ONE! But I do ok. I'm the only DIY Gunsmith, firearms builder, custom knife maker with ONE ARM, that I've ever been able to find anyway. Oh... and I do stuff for free. I'm not an FFL so I don't take firearms. I just help out where I can.
