I have to say the Pelican 1770 is one bada** of a case. Heavy has Hell (roughly 42 lbs by itself) but worth it for travel.

Got it all finished up today and all foam glued into place. Used pieces of the Pick & Pluck cut to size, turned the egg crate lid foam over so the flat side is facing down, and glued pieces into place to firmly hold the rifle at exact center in the foam protection. Also cut away all foam around the scope so that nothing is touching it at all. Used that plastic ammo holder that comes in a box of ammo and glued it into place so that i can keep 20 rounds in the case. All in all, now that i've done all this, i'm pretty happy with the pelican 1770. Keep in mind this is for travel. I'll be looking into a soft case that can be carried like a back pack, but also folds out into a shooting mat for prone.

No doubt the Pelican cases are in a league of their own as for quality.
But also for cost. lol
Ive always built my own using wood with foam inside for keeping the gun firmly in place.
I use a 1x6 pc of white pine for the sides, then 3/8” plywood for the top and bottom.
I make them in one pc, then run the hinge side thru a table saw and install the hinges before cutting the other sides.
Certainly not as nice as this one, but works well for just shoving it into a vehicle.

i feel like wood could introduce moisture issues. Is this not the case?

Pelican does make a nice case, but IMO, they aren't worth the price. I have 3 of the same type cases sold at Harbor Freight, and they didn't cost as much as one Pelican case does.
I'm all for buying American made products, but I'm not paying 3x the price for it!

I to own several from harbor freight. Love them actually, but like Apache from HF most did not make a case large enough for this rifle. So options become limited when you have a rifle over 51" and want ample padded beyond that so 55" internal length becomes hard to find. i wanted a minimum of 5" beyond the actual size of my rifle in all directions. This very closely fit that requirement. The Apache case will not even close around this rifle. So this is now by far the most expensive rifle case i've ever owned. Having now owned both the Apache and lesser brands, The Pelican is far superior in every where when it comes to mass that rigidity but also weight. Not sure of other pelican brand cases but the 1770 is a beast of a case.

Harbor freight does have some nice cases with a very reasonable price.
Other things as well, and they seem to hold up well at least for average guy use.

The harbor freight cases are pretty impressive. This pistol case i used has been on the truck for about 2 years now 100% in the weather and road conditions at all times. It was used to make a fully stand alone trailer wiring circuit on my Freightliner so that it can properly pull Rv 5th wheel, gooseneck, and even regular bumper pull trailers as well as my step deck on the fly. Case is still holding up today with no issue at all. Still does not even leak. If they made one the same size as this pelican case, i would have bought it without even looking at other options. They really do punch way above their price.

That would be the ultimate tow rig.
No need for a sleeper cab when towing those things.

even when pulling my step deck i plan my routs for motels with truck parking. The truck sleeper life just isn't for me. I like a shower and toilet. Also my last truck would cost me about the same as a motel after idling for 10 hours straight. Goofy log book rules state you must take a 10 hour break whether you need that much time or not.
That being said, it is nice to just set the cruise control, having automatic jake brakes, and never need to down shift or stress in the mountains. Far better visibility and mirrors, and far more braking power than needed for an RV. Honestly its safer in every way than the 1 ton it replaced.

Do the same log book rules apply to those using the dually pickup rigs?
I wasent aware they even needed a class C license.

for personal use ONLY, no log book is needed in any case, but for commercial use be it in a dually pickup or a semi-truck the log book rules are the same. As for license, its different state to state. Here in Tx one would need a non cdl class a if their truck and trailer combination is over 26001 lbs. meaning either the weight rating or actual loaded weight. NOT what you regester i for or tag it as. So if your truck and trailer both use a dual wheel, you can guarantee you need an upgraded license. Now there is an exemption for RV. That being said i have my CDL-A. Its a lot less arguing with a DPS officer state for state. Some try and cheat with farm tags, or registering a semi as an RV. Doing so and using it commercially or for non RV or farm use can end very expensively. My truck is my personally one "private tractor" according to the title and tags, yet i use it for both commercial and private use.
i rarely haul for hire these days, mostly use it to transport my own equipment for tree work or equipment work
