I'm late to this party and my response pales compared to others but I'm 76 years old and have shot Texas deer with a .270 all my life. Longest shot probably 350 yards? Always used 130 grain bullets. Great caliber! While I've never done it I can't imagine that hitting anything on this continent in the heart/lungs with one wouldn't kill it. If you want to use heavier bullets go to an '06.

That’s a great testament there! Thank you!
The heaviest bullets I think I would ever use would be the 150grs.
The SD of those equal, or better the 180gr .30 cal bullets. Plus, they’ll penetrate as well, if not better.

I think he could have reached his conclusion with far fewer words.

Oh. Just too many words. I agree with everything...yet I agree with nothing.

Three of those articles were by the same author. So, there are two opinions expressed in 4 links.

Can't disagree with much. The .270 is a good round, frequently compared to the .30-06 and said to be 'flatter' shooting, even though the difference is minimal. Same reasoning that has made the 6.5mm a popular caliber.

The most accurate rifle I have is the cheapest Remington ever made. I think it's a 710, is chambered in 270. It's almost the perfect deer rifle, but the receiver has plastic in it and it is not real smooth lol. But I usually grab my 7 mag. Same thing to me, the mag has a little extra fps. Shooting w heavier pill. Nothing a deer would notice.

Yep. A 168gr bullet with a B.C. of .631 launched at 2900fps is a "little extra".
