Why do they not make this more known?

Are any of the other receivers tapped 8-40, other than the Precisions?

I think my 12 has #8 screws for the bases. It is becoming more common these days for base screws.

With shooters adding 20MOA Bases and heavier rings and very heavy scopes, some of which are two pounds or more the #6 screws aren't a good choice anymore.

I always thought the screws could have been a little bigger. I guess it works though. I believe the old Remington 788 had bigger screws than the standard at the time but I think that was the only Remington rifle that did. It never really caught on.

What is torque spec for the 8-40 screws? Is it higher than the #6 screws?

I agree with above statement, but Savage is coming to the party a bit late. According to the EGW site:

Savage Axis Rifles with serial numbers higher than N936371 are drilled and tapped for #8-40 screws.

Oh great, and mine is N898xxx. Now I have to make sure the scope rail I buy has the proper 6-48 screws. Fortunately, recoil for 350Legend isn't bad and my scope is only 1.4#.
