Hey everyone just bought a savage 16 300 wsm. Shot it for the first time the other day. I must say is it just me or does the 300 wsm round recoil less then traditional magnums. I own a ruger mark 2 7mm rem mag and this savage 300 wsm recoils alot less! I use 175 gr in the 7mm and shooting 180 gr in the 300. Am i crazy or do the short mags really have that much less recoil? ???

Between me and my shooting partner we have had and or built for others six 300WSM rifles. All but one were Savages and all were very accurate. If you have access to some Reloader 17 and H4350 I think you will find that is all you may end up shooting in the 300. Also, Federal 165g Fusion ammunition shot better than any other factory ammo in all the Savages.

Thanks for the input! ammo is very slim this time of year by me with rifle season aproching. I wanted to shot 165 gr but could not get a hold of any. Everyone had the 150 s or the 180 s so i ended up getting the 180 gr winchester supreme balistic silver tip. Only took 4 shots to sight the rifle in at the range, once sitted shot 3 more all in a 1 inch bullseye at 100 yards. So the 180 supremes seem accurate in my rifle but well see how they do in the feild against a monster whitetail buck? ;D

I have been shooting and loading loads for my model 16 300 wsm for 5-6 yrs now and my favorite load for it is 67.4 grains of IMR 4350 and 150 grain Hornady SST. It puts 3 bullets in a dime. You can't even tell theres three bullets on the paper and thats with a 3 lbs trigger. If I can fig out how to take the accu trigger even lighter around the 1 lbs range I could tighten that group more. Case length is 2.090. O.A. Length of 2.865. And thats pushing a 150 gr. bullet 3100 fps. Reloader 19 and ramshot hunter are goods powders for it to.
