so far
started with a 22" savage sporter profile Mcgowen precision barrel in 7.62x39 with .310 bore not .308, with a 1-10 twist.
ptg 7.62x39 short action bolt head
savage axis xp camo with .223 heavy barrel and factory installed bushnell scope (donor rifle)

So far i absolutely love the rifle. I really wish the basic axis was factory available in 7.62x39 as it would be an ideal combo for a budget minded shooter. My only issue so far is i HATE the oem stock feel. Being as it was a heavy barrel rifle, the sporter contour barrel is for sure free floated so that is not my issue. It just "feels" as cheap as it actually is. So im shopping aftermarket stocks. Just do NOT want to add anymore weight than what is unavoidable. I love the weight of the rifle as it will be used for stalking for miles. Hence why i would not use my 12lb 110FCP.

Below is the rifle in is current state.
Dont judge me to harshly on the video. Was recorded with a cellphone. I am not a youtuber and honestly not very good at doing so.

Im kinda wanting a russian style stock for this build for just cool factor. Nothing exist i know, but maybe i can find a woodworker who is up to the challenge. I've sent an email to rhineland arms, being as they are only 2 hours drive from me. Would love one of their SVD style butstocks/grips made into a stock with a svd style handguard. Clearly all one piece of wood. Im waiting to hear back to see if they would have an interest in making me a custom 1 off stock like this

im wanting this buttstock/grip design for the rear

put together similar to this stock they already make, though i would settle for this exact stock inletted for my short action axis.

just wanting to go a different "fun" route with this build over the normal chassis and high $$$$ builds i've done in the past. Not saying having a 1 off stock made will be cheap but it sure would be pretty cool and id have the only one.

anyway ill continue to up date this as time progresses

settled on a typical boyds pro varmint stock. sadly as much as i love this rifle, just really bummed about the moron in office killing the main selling point of this build.

Nice one. I like the Pro Varmint I have on my .223.

yeah, got it on my savage b22 in 22wmr as well. This is the next step for both of my pro varmints. I know people seem to like adjustable. Me i like things locked into the perfect position for me. So a little different than most see.

just gotta find the sweet spot for eye relief, cheek placement, and where your bolt can be removed.

I didn't need that on my .223. Scope is mounted low.

I did need something on the 12BVSS. Tried several. I finally chopped the stock. Drilled two holes for 1/2" steel rod. Cut 'cheek piece' out of stock. Used brass inserts for setscrews to hold in place. Had to have adjustable since scope is a high mount. Cheek piece has to be lowered or removed to get bolt out.
