I'm looking for a lead free load for my Axis 223. I live in CA so I have to stick with lead free.
In two other 22 cal rifles I'm using Barnes 36 gr Varmint Grenades, And have been pretty happy with them. I have a good supply of them and would like to find a load that works well enough to use them in the Axis.
My most accurate load in a H&R Handi rifle is 27.5 gr of TAC under the 36 gr VG bullet. But in the axis it shoots about 1.5" at 100 yds. The same Axis shoots 3/4" with Remington 55 gr fmg's.
Do any of you use a lead free bullet and have a good hunting load? I'll be using this mostly on Coyotes, but also ocasionally on ground squirrels. Thanks DR

I have not....However, if ya have not already, check out Barnes. They have load data for their TSX all copper bullets.

The 62gn tsx coppers are compatible to 77gn smk bullets in size FYI.

I think the last batch of 62gn tsx I had loaded were 24.5 gns of ar comp

Pretty accurate. Under an 1” for the most part at 100yds
