Need Help with Savage First Gen Short Receiver Scope Rail!!!

Hi,
I have run numerous searches and can find no real info on a scope rail for this 22-250 rifle.

It is a 110 model with a flat back and round front, but is the First Generation Short length.

Determined this by Ejection Port Length and Bolt Spacing.

Sooo....Does anyone know of a scope rail that is available for this rifle???

The regular 110 with the round front and flat back, of course will not work.

I have a pre-2003 flat back long action with a one piece picatinny base from Murphy Precision. Not inexpensive but works wonderfully. They also do custom base work.

I have a Weaver 2 piece already, but it does not give much room for adjustment for the rings.

I have a Weaver Scope with Burris rings and it will not work.

VERY restricting on adjustability!

You may have had the misfortune of stumbling on to one of the reasons those actions are not very popular. Do you have a stock yet?

Take a look at a Weaver 413 (48425) scope base. It is listed as a one piece base for a pre 2003 Savage 110 action (flatback ?)

Thanks everyone, I have a small shop so I might just buy a 12" Weaver Scope Base Blank and make my own.

The Receiver has a round front and a flat back, so the base will have to be machined on the front and of course the holes drilled.

I see no other way to get an affordable one piece base.

Yes I have the original Black Walnut Stock.

Always an issue with all the holes in the action (110V J series) not being used when it comes to scope mounts. (odd ball length) Not sure how many I bought and returned trying to get ALL the holes to match a scope mount. No luck. And lots of times, you couldn't get enough windage adjustment to get the scope on target.
Finally, picked up a new rear windage adjustable one piece mount for the rear and a one piece mount for the front that covered ALL the action holes.
Shipped them off, had them cut in half, mounted the front and back pieces together and re welded together. And, the mount doesn't cover any of the action port opening. Can't tell it from a factory one piece base and it's a "custom fit".:cool:
20 or 30 years ago, there were mounts all over the place for the J short actions. Just can't go back in time.

Thanks, I actually have a friend that is a all around Gunsmith and he is going to see if we can use a regular 110 (flat back, round front) and maybe get away with drilling some new holes where needed.

Less labor than getting a blank anyway...

Well, I feel sort of FOOLISH admitting this but I got the scope mounted.

I was looking at it again and noticed the rail cut outs on the bases was more towards one end than the other, so...

Flipped them around and it JUST gave me enough room to mount the scope, but it is against the wall, so to speak with no room for adjustment!

Talked to my friend and he said I could buy 2 sets of Weaver double offset rings and use the offset out of each package to move the scope back which would give me a better (closer) eye relief!

I could then sale the "regular" rings, as a "normal" ring set, to off set the cost.

An idea anyway, but I'm going to try and shoot it as it is and see what I think.

The first Gen "Short" was actually longer than the later Savage "Short", and was so deemed, a Medium, I guess.

Admittedly, I now know more about Savage Production History, than I was looking to learn!
