My first gun was a brand new Stevens 311 12 gauge , My Dad bought it for me between 1984-1986 I believe. I have always wanted a Fox model B , while looking online I see MANY of the Fox's opening levers are pointing WAY to the right, even some guns that look like they were barely used. Should I avoided guns with the lever pointing way to the right or is it a affordible repair to have gunsmith do. My Stevens 311 opening lever is still in line with the safety , like the day I got it.

Most high grade doubles of yesteryear have the top lever position as you describe. This is to allow for wear.

I cringe when I see some owners close the gun, then FORCE the top lever a little more to the left!

But then, I see a lot of gun abuse on the trap field!

I’m thinking your gun is OK as is.

I concur. My cheap sleazy Sears version 311 16 GA has the opening lever offset to the right, as God intended. Your 311 might be unusual in that it has a centered lever.

to the right of center is OK, shows there's little wear on the action. Left of center means worn out and loose

my first shotgun was a fox B 12ga too, bought by my dad when I was 14

You still looking for a Savage Arms Fox Model B. I have one in very good to fine condition I'm selling for an estate.
