What brand muzzle brake do you recommend? Thinking of getting one for the 300 wsm. I would like one similar to what Savage uses that can be opened or closed or one that can be removed with a cap to cover the threads without losing the POI.

Disregard...I've decided to try a pad you put on your shoulder first. If that doesn't work then maybe I'll continue the search for a brake.

I have a savage in 300PRC, should be close in recoil. Rifle is 16.6 lbs and even with the OEM brake im upgrading both the brake and recoil pad. Personally i'd rather deal with muzzle blast then heavy recoil trying to be precise. A local friend of mine just replaced his savage muzzle brake for the Gunbloke Tanker 2 on his 338 lapua. I have fired it with both, that said, i just ordered it myself. Quite the difference. Keep in mind that brake is nearly BMG huge. Most of my shooting is done prone, i'm slim built so that collarbone gets a bit sore. Im currently using the OEM MDT pad on a Oryx chassis. Not bad, just not magnum friendly unless the shooter has some fluff. For that i'm looking at the limbsaver air tech. Not sure if any of that is helpful or not. Oh and i did try my 300 PRC with no brake, yes the savage one takes about 1/3 of the recoil down. So compared to nothing at all, its ok.

This savage brake is what i currently have

There are many good brakes out there. But, I have decided, that when I change barrels on my 338, I'm going to put an Area 419 brake on it. It's the only one I know of that attaches the way it does via a tapered locking cone (for lack of better description) with a knurled locking nut. This makes it extremely easy to time, remove, and reinstall without shifting zero.

Amazing recoil reduction in my 300 WSM.

A ton of info.

That would be the route I'd go. I'm not a fan of the noise and ugliness (to me) of muzzle brakes.

Well are you a fan of seeing your own hits?

I have a Elite Precision in 338 Lapua Magnum and installed a Fat Bastard Gen 3 brake 5/8-24. Felt recoil is practically zero, no more than a gentle push. I would definitely recommend this brake. Firing 5 rounds of 250gr Lapua Scenar behind 83 gr of RL-22 shot using bipod only from 100 yds, first four 0.146 moa and fifth shot 0.511 moa. This rifle with a good brake is a pleasure to shoot but would be a bear to lug up mountains during a hut.

well my Gunbloke tanker 2 brake is here and installed, More about it posted here https://www.savageshooters.com/showthread.php?69624-GUNBLOKE-TANKER-II-5-8x24-MUZZLE-BRAKE-(300-PRC)
Massive improvement over the OEM savage brake.
