I have convinced myself this is way overblown. I just shot the best group I ever shot, about .5 MOA, .375MOA and finally the last was .25 MOA. I have no idea what the jump was but it was a lot with a 52 grain bullet. I just seated them .155" in the case and didn't even bother to check. I am sure this is not exact down to the thousandth of an inch but it is pretty darn close. Plenty good enough for about any normal situation.

One of my more accurate stock Savages is an Axis in .223 with an almost Wylde length throat. I know that shooting 53gr VMax the jump is .150"+ You just never know...

It all depends on the cartridge and bullet.

My .223 using Sierra Match Kings and it does not care much. But, from what I have seen from other people, Match Kings are known to be very tolerant of bullet jump.

The Bergers I shoot in the .308 are a bit sensitive. They like to be close to the lands. 0.010 or so.

My cast bullets all like to be jammed into the rifling.

Match bullets in my .264" prefer 0.015", but my hunting load is a whopping 0.060" jump for the best accuracy. I was happy for it as that is less of a chance of hanging up in the magazine. :noidea:

It's not what you want. It's what the rifle and load prefer.

Just measure the bullet base to tip length or bullet base to ogive for a 52 or 53 grain bullet and then compare that same measurement with a 69 or 77 grain bullet and you will see why a light bullet won't ever get close to the lands in a normal .223 chamber.

In both of my .223 rifles, a CZ 527 and a 12FV, the 52 and 53 grain bullets fall out of the neck when they touch the lands.

A jump of 0.150 is about normal for a 52 or 53 in either barrel when the 77s can be seated at 0.020 jump and still be well seated in the neck.

That said, in both of my rifles, the 52 SMK, 53 SMK and 52 Berger bullets all shoot extremely accurately even with a jump around 0.150.
The light bullets shoot best with a fast powder and particularly like VV N133.
