I have a Savage 16 short action Left Hand that I would like to use to build a 458 x 2" American. I'am wondering about what new bolt head would I need ? Or what could be done to modify a 308 to a magnum to use.

You have a few options.
Order a standard length short action bolt head cut for a magnum face from PT&G.

Find a LH long action magnum bolt head and cut the nose to short action length.
Purchase a complete short action magnum bolt. It will come without the ejector or the extractor from Midway. The reason is the short action Magnum Bolt Head is .125" longer requiring a firing pin that is .125" longer. I don't remember all the parts you need but it is probably the hardest route to go unless you start with a factory magnum short action action like a 300 wsm rifle would come with. Beware those actions are large tenon threads(1.125" ) I dont even know if they sell left hand.

Was just wondering if with a die grinder could a standard bolt face be opened to magnum. Not that much needs to be removed.

Jeff, If that is a Savage bolthead you will need a SA magnum firing pin.
