Been working with Savages for a little while now, everything from hunting rifles to varminters to target rigs etc. Decided to build an "all around" rifle (I know, I know) that I could shoot at the range, maybe hunt out west with, not too hard on the shoulder, easy to find components for.... well one thing led to another and eventually realized I was inadvertently sliding into "tacticool" mall ninja territory, the gun world's equivalent of a basic b*tch.
Well, if you can't beat em...

Original plan was for a rifle that would see mainly range duty with the option of hunting med sized game and as an aside could run subsonic just because it's fun. Decided on a 308 Win for the flexibility and commonality of ammo/components. Also liked the barrel life.
Had never worked with a chassis before but liked the modular design and the fact that it could be set up for bench, prone or field use. Figured why not give it a try.
Have heard good things about Cerakote, and mine as well get the muzzle threaded, really don't like noise...

Ended up with a sa 11 action, timed and trued by SSS, Shilen Select Match 24" 1:10 threaded barrel, recoil lug and barel nut from NSS, graphite black Cerakote, Oryx chassis painted FDE (natch) and Vortex PST 6-24 EBR-1 mil/mil.
Really like the weight/ergos so far. Not too much to carry but very stable. Still getting used to the chassis, think it has a lot of potential.
Started barrel break in today, got on paper at 50 then moved to 100, these are the 5th, 6th and 7th shots using cheapo gun show ammo:

Rifle has good manners, recoil is negligible, love the scope, should be a fun project.
