Having a ball with this project. Savage pre accutriger 110 LA. Stuck a Rhineland .450 bushmaster 18" barrel. Steel picatinny rail and a Leupold VX-R patrol scope 1.25 - 4. Loaded up some Hornady 250 gn FTX over 27.7 gn of Lil-Gun for a velocity of 1850 at 12'. First day out we are maintaining a nice .75 at 100 with a very mild recoil.

Thanks Jay. After a few decades of being a Savage owner I figured it was about time. Needed to take a break from the M14 stuff for a short time.

I built a 450 Bushmaster on an Axis action last year using a Rhineland barrel. I've been experimenting with heavy bullet loads (so far, 450 grain cast gas check and jacketed HPs) I've been resizing 45/70 bullets down to .452" in two steps with a .454" sizing die and then a .452" die. In the stronger bolt action I've extrapolated 45/70 trapdoor load data and Marlin lever action data. I've had the heavy jacketed loads up to 1600 fps so far. Recoil is definitely noticeable!

I am loving this 250 jacketed load. Going out on my range shortly for a little playtime.
Looks like I made it to Viet Nam a couple of month before you went home.

How is the feeding from the LA?

No problem at all. The .223 I am working on now came from Savage with a LA and even that thing feeds quite nice. Surprising.

Always great to talk to another Vietnam Vet. Sounds like I should have built my Bushmaster on a 110 action instead of the Axis. 250 grain pointed pills feed great along with 265 gr Interlock but everything else, the mouth of the case hangs up on the front of the mag box. I fashioned a spacer to go in the original 243 mag moving the round forward in the box and installed a 22-250 follower. I even lowered the front of the mag box with my Dremel and a sanding drum and they still hang up or the first round or two will feed and then the last hangs up or nose dives.
