My brother purchased a new Savage Axis 350 Legend rifle last fall and from the day he bought it has experienced problems with firing all rounds. He has used only factory ammo such as Hornady and it will fire some rounds and not others. Every primer is being impacted. I researched this on the net and this appears to be a common problem with this model of Savage rifle. He doesn't want to bother with shipping the whole rifle back to Savage and then wait 2 months. Is there an easy fix to this?

Thanks!

It's possible the firing pin springs need to be replaced. I had the same problem with my 243 Axis. The spring system in the Axis bolt sux. There's are no Axis springs available from Wolf, I had my LGS order new springs from Savage and they fixed the problem. Savage will not sell the springs directly to you.

That sucks that Savage won't sell a stupid spring! I purchased a Savage LRPV in 6BR years ago and use it in factory varmint matches - great rifle! Sounds like Savage rifles have really degraded in quality or maybe just the Axis line of rifles are of poor quality.

The Axis line are pretty much low cost entry level rifles for someone who just wants a rifle to hunt with. The Axis can be a shooter. I built my 450 Bushmaster on an Axis action; it's a "thumper" with heavy 450 grain cast gas check hand loads. After market support is no where near as good as it is for the 10/110 action.
