https://i.imgur.com/k9TMasQ.jpgHello. I came into the possession of an anschutz Savage 1172 in 308, and really can't find any information on it anywhere. I'm pretty positive it's just a Savage 110 export rifle in a schnobble front skip line checkered stock, and probably overpaid for the rifle when I bought it (paid I think 250 for it) had a crack in the stock and looked like it had NEVER been fired let alone had ammunition in the magazine. I fixed the crack in the stock by the magazine well and found that regular old style 110c magazines fit are identical to the factory magazine that came with it. What is this rifle? Is it just an export rifle that never made it out of the country or did I end up with something strange, I wasn't aware that anschutz ever bought any 308 rifles from Savage, and can not find this model number listed anywhere online. It's a fine rifle, and with 150 grain Hornady gmx it does an easy 3/4" or less group at 100 yards.
Anyone have any idea of the history of this rifle. I bought it in a gun shop near sanfrancisco California

There was a thread just recently where they were talking about the savage anschutz

Yeah I looked at that one and really didn't get much insight, I've spoken to both anschutz and Savage and the Savage historical society and pretty much all gave the same answer of that model and serial combination don't exist. It has anschuts proof marks on the barrel. But the 1172 model number aperantly doesn't exist, and there's no import markings on it anywhere. I wonder if it's a Savage custom shop job that someone had done with a European stock and anschuts marked barrel and the 1172 is just a model number stamps arbitrarily into it by the custom shop. It's a fine rifle, shoots good, fits me like it was made for me. I just don't really know what I have. To me it's one of those guns that has zero marketable value because I'm just not going to sell it ever. The only modification I intend to make to it is replace the weaver bases with a redfield Jr mount and nickle plated dovetail rings.

It also has a strange vertically adjustable butt plate that I'm not entirely sure how to use. It's a rubber recoil pad with a plastic base dovetailed onto a metal block that is screwed to the stock. Has two inches of vertical adjustment that can be locked in place.

Edit:Found the proof mark on the barrel and action. Needed a magnifying glass to see it, looks like an eagle with an N next to it, which looks to be an ulm Germany nitrocellulose proof mark. So the rifle has been to Germany at some point in it's life

https://i.imgur.com/zBE5TIb.jpgYou can see the crack in the stock in the photo that has anschutz Savage arms stamping on the receiver. Nothing a touch of acroglass couldn't fix. I did refinish this rifle, it used to be darker. But I had to strip the finish to fix the crack so I just did 15 layers of tongue oil and burnished it with 0000 steel wool between coats, here's a photo of the butt pad adjusted all the way down
