I have a Savage 110 with a heavy barrel chambered in .308 win. that I just bought a pre-fit proof research barrel and a new stock. Just wondering if I can reuse the old barrel nut? Another question I got is can I install it my myself and if I can what do I need to install? I already have the barrel nut wrench.

Yes, you can use the barrel nut over again, and again, and again. I would recommend a barrel vice and a go-gauge. I personally use shim stock behind the go-gauge to make my no-go, or you can just buy/rent the set. I set the nut torque to 80 lb/ft.

The only thing that concerns me with the barrel nut is it does not slide down near as far as it did on the old barrel. I'm concerned on scratching up the barrel because of hitting that nut down.

Nevermind, it wasn't screwing down enough because of a bur on the threads.
