7mm-08 With 150 grain Hornandy GMX

Hornady doesn't list data for this combination. Hodgdon 2020 Annual Manual lists data 7-08 data for the 150 grain Barns TTSX BT.

What are your thoughts on this data and do you have any experience(s) with the combo I'm looking to put together?

It does look like weak loads! I assumed it is because of the copper bullet. Nosler has a special note for their E-Tips.

Rifle is a 22" 1:9 Bergara B-14 Hunter (I know, I know, not a Savage)

I like Reloder 15 for the 7mm08 but do not shoot the TTSX.

I had noticed a while back that reloading data for solid copper bullets was significantly less than jacketed. Anyone else notice that?

Do the bullet mfgs have load data that says otherwise?

I had a novel idea and called Hornady. My Hornandy manual is the 10th Edition. The gentleman said the newer manual has the GMX listed with the 150 and 154 grain jacketed bullets with a COAL of 2.775. Does anyone have an 11th edition?

No. They are not worried about them coming apart. Solid copper bullets take more force to engage into the lands, causing a pressure spike. Barnes recommends jumping them .050” for the same reason.

I’m willing to bet that 150grn GMX will not expand under 7mm08 velocities, causing a “zip through” on game. When going to solid copper bullets, bullet weight needs to be rethought. When Barnes tested their bullets in Africa, they used 130grn solid copper bullets in all chamberings from 308win to 30Weatherby. You need enough velocity for them to open up, and if they don’t, they are useless. I would not go over 130grns in a 7mm08, with a solid copper bullet, and would be more inclined to go lighter.

I forgot to mention, Hornady says performance is from 2000 FPS to 3400 FPS.

Solid copper , pressure will rear it's ugly head. As we know the manual boys shoot lots of rounds in very controlled conditions. I witnessed antelope kills with a 243ai. 80gr. TTSX. Well to say the least it was over right now, wound was massive. My buddy was a velocity freak,never asked powder charge he was using. He was talking about switching to TSX to minimize meat damage. That being said 150 in a 7-08? I'd see if I could chronograph to see what we are at velocity wise. In these times bullet selection is a what can I get vs.what I want. Good luck. 7-08 fan myself.
