Have a MDT / Savage Stealth long action chassis, and ordered a 5 round 30-06 Magpul AC L standard magazine.

I noticed that it looks as if the mag is a couple of millimeters too short. What went wrong here?

What caliber are you putting in the chassis? There is a difference between the magazines for 300 WM and 30-06.

Is that the 338 Lapua chassis? They take a slightly longer magazine.

(Measured both. This might help)

Magazine length OD lengthwise is 3.721"

Chassis magazine cut out measures 3.880"

Got the chassis off Snipershide; my understanding was that this chassis could be used for both 338 and 270win ( planning on dropping in a .270 action) Am i wrong? :)

If it for 338 LM, then go to Accurate Mag. They are not cheep, but they are the mags used by Savage. There are 3 different lengths.

I would contact MDT and get the low down on what you need for what you are trying to do. a 338 lapua mag will not work for a 30-06...I would not think.

Straight from MDT's website:

Savage Long Action chassis systems all use 3.715" AICS magazine wells. The BA in 338 Lapua Magnum uses 3.850" magazines and have recently switched to a thicker recoil lug which will not fit our chassis. The ESS has been specifically designed around the current BA 110 in 338 Lapua Magnum.

If your well measures 3.880" then sounds like you have the wrong setup.

BUT...on MDT's magazine page they also say:

The 300 Win Mag magazine can also be used for 7mm Rem Mag, 30.06, 6.5x55 and similar cartridges by adjusting the feed lips.

So if you want to try and save this chassis order the 3.850" 300WM magazine and then tweak it to work...
