Hello Everyone,

Savage rifles have been my go to for years, but have only had the newer rifles (90's and up) until now.

I have a 110 L-D in 22-250 with a 6 digit serial number, 123***. The barrel has 16V and SP on the left side, 8V on the top and 3V on the right side. Do any of these give the right info to date the rifle? I looked and found the guide for serials that start with a letter but not all numbers.

I'd also be curious as to the value of this rifle. It appears to have had a trigger job on it, because it is super light and crisp.

Thanks,

Tradbeau

So I'm seeing from other posts that the barrel on this gun is post 1966 and pre 1969, because it has no swell at the action. Is that correct?

I found this thread explaining the year letters for pre 69

If the 16V is inside an oval circle it was manufactured in 1968. Value is what someone would be willing to pay.

110 L. Is it left handed?

Lot of good info in the FAQ at the top of the forum, including scans of Savage catalogs. L is indeed left hand, 1968 catalog - https://www.savageshooters.com/content.php?480-Savage-Arms-1968-Catalog

PhilC, thanks for the catalog link. I'm comparing mine to the catalog and it looks to be a 110 MCL. However mine has 110 L-D on the barrel. It definitely has the 24" heavy barrel. The overall gun weight is quite a bit heavier (10lbs with scope) than my other two later model Savage 22-250s. Would the barrel marking be a hint to a variant not in the catalog?

I bought this for my lefty wife, but the weight makes it undesirable for her. She likes her utilitarian 22-250 that weighs about 7lbs.

The 110 L-D stamping on the barrel really isn't something to go off of in terms of specific model. Even today on brand new rifles they're typically just stamped "Model 110" or whatever model # they are with no letters indicating specific model. It was the same back in the day as well, thought LH models would almost always have the "L" tacked on. I'm guessing the "-D" was most likely just an identifier for "Series D" which means absolutely nothing to you and me as the series designations were just for internal reference for minor revisions to parts should the rifle ever come back in for warranty work.

J.Baker that makes sense. I thought D might have stood for Deeeeluxe!
