I recently acquired a brand new Savage barrel made by ARP in 6.8 SPC. He only made a limited run of them, so when I had the opportunity to grab one, I couldn’t pass it up. I shoot the 6.8 out of my AR and it’s a fantastic round. The ideal candidate for the conversion is a .224 prairie hunter, but they’re impossible to find. I ended up going with a 110 Tactical in .308. I installed an 18” 3R/11.25 barrel. Now I have a brand new take off .308 20” barrel that I’ll be looking to sell in the very near future, as well as an AICS .308 mag.
In addition to the barrel swap, I would also need to swap in a new 6.8 bolt head from PTG. I also bought a new AICS .224 mag. I had to trim down the front edge of the follower and add a piece of plastic inside the mag.
For some reason I can’t attach photos. Not sure why.
