Savage 23A Sporter trigger help

Hi girls and boys. I'm pretty new here, but been lurking somewhat. I've been left a rather nice 23A, and the only beef I have is the trigger is atrocious. It seems like a poor attempt at a two stage trigger. It seems like it was handled very carefully since 1923, so I don't see how this was a result of abuse. It was never even fitted with sling hardware, and the bluing is 95%, wood 75%. I love the lines and balance of this, but really need to fix this trigger in order to enjoy shooting this jewel
