Bottom metal help

I just bought a savage 112 in 308 win. It is a long action with a short action mag box. I am trying to find a bottom metal and detach mag to fit this rifle. Will any long action bottom metal work even though the action is cut for a short action cartridge?

Not to my knowledge. That's a pre '97 receiver which uses a staggered feed box.

Could the action be milled and opened up to a true long action ( if you could find someone to do the work) or would it not be worth it? Seems like my stock choices are limited for this rife.

Price it out. Only you can decide if it is worth the effort. Personally selling that rifle and buying an action that can be built the way you want to do it is the best route to go. An effortless build with easy to obtain parts is the way to go.
