what is the consensus on the go to screws to mount your rail on my Savage 10 SA? #6 or #8 ? I am going to have my receiver apart soon and was wondering if its beneficial to tap out to the#8 screws on my rifle? TIA

I have personally not had any issues with the #6-48...but if you can accurately do it, then why not?

You will be fine with the factory screws. You could bed the rail. I would want a mill that was relatively accurate and precision for anything more

The same as an action. Epoxy or JB weld. If you ever think you want it off use a lot of release agent and tape off the top of the action.

I just used bow string wax on the receiver.
I drilled little holes in the bottom of the base for some tack. I used JB weld.
I only bedded the rear. Wax the screws threads also. You only want to snug the front down and thread the rear in but not too snug as the point of the bedding is not to bend the rail.

Make sure you clean up befor it hardens with Q-tips and alcohol around the edges for a clean looking finish.

Epoxy bonds chemically, it does not require that you drill holes in the stock or action to get a good bond. Just clean it good, and use a good brand of epoxy and mix it accurately. Should you ever have to remove it, you can use a propane torch to heat it carefully, or you can use dry ice by packing the action in dry ice. Either way then give the rail a light rap with a plastic hammer and it'll pop right off.

I have a EGW 30 MOA rail on it , I am going to put a NSS kick lug on and than reinstall the rail and probably epoxy it after i check it out. Thanks for the info!

I pulled my Savage 10 down and removed the the junko factory kick lug and added an NSS really nice kick lug than reset the headspace on my 6.5 CM McGowen barrel. While there with the action in a handy spot I Epoxied the rail on the action. Next day I assembled gun and went outside and shot it. at a 100yds it shot 13 clicks high and 1 click right.

So I rezerod it and I am good to go to match this coming weekend! I guess the 13 clicks high is showing how out of square the factory kick lug was.
