I have a 10 BA Stealth in 6.5 Creedmore. It has the original factory barrel which, I believe, is now shot out. Groups have opened up and it’s copper fouling something fierce. My question is whether 1500 rounds is about average for this barrel/cartridge combo. I shoot 140 ELDMs at 2800’/sec using 42 grains of RL-16.

Clean the copper and heck with a scope. If you get it out see how it shoots after 20 more rounds. Im thinking 2200-2500 average.

I doubt the barrel is shot, 1500 Rounds is 6MM class barrel's life.
Sounds like Cooper or carbon fouling , inspect the barrel. Chrony your fav load and see how much velocity you have lost.

Good to hear. Setting up a 6.5cm and I was wondering what the barrel life may be. Seem to be varying reports.

I had to chuckle to myself when I read that.

Many modern mass produced barrels are rough from the machining processes. Mine are both copper mines, even after thousands of rounds. My .308 is very touchy about copper. I have to clean it out every 50-100 rounds.

Clean out the copper and I bet you have a great barrel.

Given how bad it is you should devote some time to it. It is going to take a while to get all of it out.

I have two 6.5mm CMs that are supposed to be shot out but they still shoot just a good as they ever have.

My 12 LRP has over 4200 rounds down the barrel.
My 12 FV has over 3000 rounds down the barrel.

I don't shoot hot loads but I expected them to be shot out by now, but they aren't.
I also clean out the copper after every 100 rounds - a normal range session for me.
I use Wipe out or Patch Out each time I clean it.
It is not a severe copper cleaner and won't harm the barrel if you leave the barrel to soak overnight.
I leave it in for an hour usually, and since I use it regularly, it does the job.

It is possible that I don't shoot well enough to see the same degradation that a superior shooter might see.
However, for me, the accuracy is the same as it was when the barrels had 100 rounds through them.

1500 is way low for burning a barrel out. In my match barrels it's usually between 2300-2800 rounds before they are pulled and replaced. As mentioned clean it really well and it should come back in. It's possible it's a bad barrel and dies early but 1500 is no where near the norm.

Could be that the crown needs touched up. Your load combo is what
I have used for the last few years. My barrels have been a dream to
clean. In that respect, I would put a bore scope down it to see what's
going on. You did mention it being the original factory barrel !!
