Just bought this Axis in .243. How do I lubricate the inside of the bolt? Is it necessary?

Thanks for the help.

You don't have to lube the inside of the bolt, just the cocking ramp and the bolt lugs.

I've never lubed the inside of mine. Never had it apart. Works just fine. Going on 3500 rounds.

I use just the very slightest amount of John Deere Polyurea grease on the lugs. I can't overemphasize slight too much. CaseIh or any other good grease would work too.

I have several bolt guns including 2 Savage Axis' and I only lube the cocking ramp and the bolt lugs too.

Welcome. I don't bother to lube the spring or firing pin as oil can collect dust and in sub freezing temperatures the oil will get thick and slow down the firing pin enough to cause a misfire.

I just spray the bolt down with Penetrating Oil (WD-40 or Walmart Brand).

It's really not necessary at all.

I do periodically take my bolts apart and clean them, they can gather crud over time and that can possibly affect their functioning, I find it's really a function of how, what, where and how often you shoot. You probably don't need to disassemble and clean them as long as you're having no issues with proper and consistent firing.
