Does anyone know where I can get a chamber print for the Savage M112 Target Action in 338LM? I get the impression that the freebore is very short as I have to seat the 300SMK very deep.

the round is based on 265 and such.
since the rifle is a commercial product in the usa i would look at a SAAMI print.
my 338 edge is 4.07 long with a 300 berger,,,and throated for it.
my guess is that if you want to shoot 300's you need to get it throated longer

Thank you. It does seem that the 300 have to be seated very deep.

I shoot 285 ELD's, loaded 3.66 gets me roughly .02 off the lands.
Yeah, they're deep.
I'm limited to mag length with mine, but that's obviously not relevant in your case.
If you want to seat out longer, make up a dummy round set up exactly how you want it and have it throated to fit.
EDIT
Here is the CIP print:

I would try 250s, the increase in velocity will offset the decrease in the BC out to roughly a mile.
Most of the L/R hunters i know using smaller capacity 338s are using 250s for that reason.
Even with the 338x378 which is what many are using, the 250s work better due to the velocity difference.

distance and intended use needs to be defined.
my 338 edge is a TARGET rifle, and i run 300 bergers at just over 2800 to 2000 yards.
pick a distance, pick a use, pick a bullet that does the task...
if that means throating and single feed, so be it

I was able to load both the 300 smk and 285 eldm over H1000 successfully in a M112, while jumping both. FWIW, my touch dimension was 2.985 base to ogive for the 285 eldm using Hornaday comparator, and 2.976 for the 300 SMK. 86 grs of powder in the 285's, and 88 for the 300's. Both shot successfully to one mile.

Touch for the 300 A-Tip was 3.878 OAL and 3.008 to the ogive, loading 96.5 grs of RL 33. Last range secession was a bust for several reasons so I can't report on accuracy just yet.

Using the Hornady tool: the 250SMK is 2.988 and the 300SMK and 285ELDM are 2.990

Some are happy with just ringing the bell at a mile with a stock Savage, and watching the guys' with custom builds look on with scorn while missing.

and the answer to the questions ??
hitting the dirt in the vacinity of point of aim is not "sucessful" in my book.
i guy in colorado runs a "school" where 308 shooters hit at one mile...but the steel is FIVE FEET BY FIVE FEET.
APROX 3.5 MOA...

a $999 is barely a STOCK savage when the average savage is $3-400.

Sure it is if it's still the same as it came from the factory. "Stock", really has nothing to do with price. If it's still how it came from the factory then it is a stock rifle.

you do not need a print
you need to decide what you are going to do.
get the base of the bullet out of the case or not.
it is limiting your potential.
