Hi all - I just received a brand new B22 this week and before going out (bad/windy weather) I took some pics and a vid of the bore. Not even cleaned bore before pics. The bore seems pretty 'rough' to me, but this is the first rifle I've had 'new' since I got the Teslong scope so I don't know what to expect. The whole inner surface looks about the same, with the 'diagonal streaks' in the groove in the pics appearing every couple inches all the way thru. Seems pretty regular and so I took pics every 2" or so. I also have a vid - most of the whole bore but won't post it here. The muzzle/crown seem a bit rough too but that could just be the magnification ?? :confused: Should this crown area be 'polished' a bit ?? I don't want to Void the warranty but don't want to sent it away right off the bat.

Anyway, I just wanted to see if anyone has an opinion on the condition, especially if you also have done pics of a New bore before firing. Due to the weather coming here I don't plan to go out for a few days (like next Sat-12th) and will be cleaning and prepping the rifle, mounting a scope etc. Comments welcome :smile-new:

Being a button rifled barrel they have have chatter marks...nobody ever said a Savage barrel looked pretty. I will say the marks close to the muzzle are a bit much. But try shooting it...you never know.

Yep celltech - my 64 has chatter marks that look like a knurling tool was run down the bore :rolleyes: and the 64s crown is about the same too. But it has a few thou rounds run thru. I guess I was hoping to just see 'shiny' and not a lunar landscape :o The other issue is the "Streaks" in the grooves, like something was stuck in the barrel as the button was pushed thru ?? I'll clean it out and maybe it'll look better. Could be some cr-- the factory left stuck to the bore inside. I'll run a few hundred rounds next week to 'polish it' a bit, then see how it looks.
Here's the chatter in the 64 ->

I have savage rifles that look like moon surfaces.
When clean.

Fresh crowns and good optics and numbers

Just for grins...here is a video of an aftermarket button rifled barrel that was also lapped. I can only assume the button was of higher quality than what Savage used on yours ;-)

Geeez celltech - Make me jealous . . . That's what I was hoping to see in my Brand New Bore !!! My 'new this May' Hatsan 12g 14" pump looks like that, but it's Open choke smooth-bore :rolleyes: That barrel prob cost waaay more than my rifle :o
