How do you tell if a savage barrel has a large or small shank?

I'm no Savage Guru, but the info found here says the large shank will measure 5/8" across the body from top rim to bottom rim. The small shanks measure 7/8" - or something close to that. Use the search feature in the top right to confirm my answer. It is very handy.

I believe the barrel nuts are also different lengths so you might be able to tell from them as well. You'll find it on a search pretty quick I'm sure.

Normally the large shank will have a "step-down" in the contour of the barrel, just after the barrel nut. The exception to this is with a bull barrel, like on the LRPV and other target action rifles.
