Anybody shooting this?

I don't have a magnum .30 - looking for something that's good from 500 - 1000 yds punching paper/steel to fit in a RUM length action without RUM powder capacity.

Why not a 6 or 6.5?

On a good day they will all work pretty well.
On a not so good day the ones with the heavier bullets will work better.

Good friend of mine looked hard at the 300 PRC. He already has a 300
Win Mag, so I had to bust his chops. A month ago he calls me from the
range, and told me to drop everything and get there to shoot his new
toy. On the bench was a 28 Nosler, A prime example of the infamous
"Ergansplittenloudenboomin" I had fun.....

What did you think of the recoil on that 28 Nos?

It's not mild, and that's for sure. First one did hit harder then expected.
He had the trigger dialed down to 2 lbs and it let go before I wanted it
to. Would I own one ?? No, and that goes for a 300 PRC.

It is a great round. I am happy with my 300WM Sendero for now but if I were to do 300 build, I would give it a serious look.

If your objective is just punching paper or ringing steel, a 6.5 creedmoor will be more efficient. If you are hunting, then a 30 cal magnum would be better. I chose to go with a 300 Norma magnum

Not sure where you draw the line on charge weight so it's hard to imagine what would work best for your use. One of the many 6.5's would easily fill the bill without breaking the bank on propellant costs. And especially one that prefers a less popular powder would be my preference, just for sake of ease in finding loading supplies.

The 300 PRC is definitely more tuned to the 1500+ yd shot relative to the OP's "500-1000 yd" goal. As suggested a 6.5 of some sort might be more appropriate for 500-1000 unless there are other "factors" at play. I just bought a 300 PRC and loading my first rounds now with Hornady A-tip 230s (0.823 BC!!!!).

i see it as a good alternative to the 300 win mag with a longer oal allowing a better heavy bullet selection. 6/6.5 area NOT in the same league.
while over kill at 500 yards, 1000 is well covered ,easily a 1500 yard round, the real question is QUALITY brass for consistent down range performance.
