Does Savage make any of the Axis rifles with a heavy barrel? I didn't see any on their website but that isn't saying I didn't overlook them.

There were some Walmart specials around. I’m sure you can find one.
Awesome shooting rifles with a few homegrown modifications.

They offered a heavy barrel model for a year, maybe two, but not sure if it's still in the catalog or not.

Mine is. Walmart. They made them in .223, .308, and .22-250 IIRC. Maybe 6.5CM as well. 22" barrel for my .223. It was not a catalog item back then (2017)

^^^That looks like a pretty good buy. Do you know about what a gun dealer would charge to handle the paperwork? I am sure it varies but if you could give me a ballpark figure it would be appreciated.

The two smiths I use here charge $25 Transfer fee plus tax on the price of the firearm.

That's what Walmart charged for the same rifle. Don't know if they still carry them. Walmarts in this state stopped selling firearms because of a state law about FFL's (all FFL's MUST do a firearms transfer if requested by a customer).

i don't know why so many places sell guns as a package. I am not saying the scope is junk but I would definitely replace it. I might call and see if they would sell it without the scope cheaper. More than likely they won't but I hate buying something I won't use. I suppose you could sell it but doubt you could get much for a basic scope anywhere.

The scope isn't horrible. It is capable of holding a zero and adjustments worked. It would be good enough for hunting. I like having elevation and windage hash marks so I put a Vortex Diamondback on mine.

You could probably have a shop keep the scope but doubt they'd give you any money off. When I bought mine I checked and the scope was worth about $25. I gave the package scope to someone who could use it.

Why do they offer package deals? Cause to the average buyer it saves them money.
