Hey guys,

So just a little rant and question about what the heck Savage is doing to us southpaw shooters... I just looked at their website today to see what options I had to choose from if I wanted to buy a new rifle instead of tearing apart my 30-06.

Why is it that Savage will chamber just about every new caliber that has hit the market in right hand bolt (Like the 6.5 PRC, 300PRC, .280AI), but they won't chamber it for the southpaw side; They just chamber the same old lame generic calibers that have been around since the beginning of man. WTF??

Do they think we don't want those new choices because we're left handed??

In a sense, they are making us tear apart their rifles, and custom building them to get the same option the right handed shooters do.

WHY?????? It's the same barrel that goes on the right handed action... How hard is it to screw one on a left handed action?

That's a shame. I really like my 280ai and 6.5 PRC. It would be a shame to not have them as an option.

Just my guess

Unfortunately I have nerve damage in my right hand and running the bolt is not efficient from the right side. I understand they may have limited models they offer for us lefties, but if they offer it in left hand, and are screwing a .308, .270, 30-06, 7mm Mag, 300 WM barrel on, then they should offer it in the other calibers too. They'd do better to get rid of all the old calibers and offer them only in the new calibers.

Just makes no sense... :frusty:

This is BS! I'm going to start protesting immediately! With you guys helping we can make this a national issue. LHRCM. Left Hand Rifle Chamberings Matter will demand newer better cartridges! We can burn this place down if they don't meet our demands!!!!! For those of you that want to donate, I can setup a GoFundMe for LHRCM. Let me know.

SageRat,That's why I just have a bunch of LH Savage action's.,SA and LA. I can put whatever barrel I want on any of them.

I don't need Savage to put one of their washboard button cut barrels on anything.

And if you really want to upgrade,Shilen,Big Horn, and American Rifle Co. offer custom LH actions that take Savage pre-fit barrels. I have a couple of them!

I wish they'd make left hand bolt handle, right eject rifles. That'd be the bees knees to me.

New cartridge options are always a gamble for any manufacturer in terms of how much demand there will be fore it. On top of that, it's also a matter of what models/configurations to offer it in. Savage has been very consistent in only offering new cartridge options in RH models for the first year or two. This allows them to gauge market demand to better determine whether or not it would be worth offering it in some LH models.

Let the righties spend their money being the guinea pigs - we can reap the benefits of their work a year or so later or bask in knowing we didn't waste money on a dud like they did.

Or you can just pick up a cheap used Savage to rebarrel if you're that impatient.

Thanks for the insight J. Baker... I was hoping you'd drop in on this thread (being a fellow southpaw). I am a relatively patient guy, but in this instance, it was just an annoyance that I couldn't get anything I wanted as far as caliber options.

I've been kicking a new build around for awhile now, and just thought I don't have enough time before hunting season in November to build what I wanted, so I thought I'd just look to see if I could buy one off the shelf. My theory being that I wouldn't have to spend another $1500-$2000 to build a hunting rifle that's going to be out in the rain, snow, freezing my butt off Elements. $650 would be a much more logical price.

I just had to rant.... Thanks again!!

You could always rebarrel a new lefty and sell the barrel to help recoup some funds.. Savage formerly had a custom shop didn't they?

You could add "special needs" to the go fund me....people born with their right arm on their left side.

That's what I've done with my previous builds... Clearly, that will be the way I have to go to get what I want... As I won't have Savage charge me for building a custom setup and still use their barrels.

I appreciate you guys (who are shooting from the wrong side...:boink:) throwing out all the good humor!!

LEFT HANDED PEOPLE ARE IN THEIR RIGHT MIND!!
Find a lefty action and re barrel it to your likes. Done deal.

I'am right handed but wanted to see how a lefty rifle felt to shoot.
Picked up a Model 12 "lefty" repeater action, added a single shot adaptor, slapped in an ambi stock and went shooting. LOVED IT!!
Ordered up a right hand BR thumb hole stock, added a Whidden V Block, plugged and re cut the bolt handle cut to the other side and mounted the lefty action.
Right hand stays in the thumb hole while my free left hand works the bolt and feeds ammo. This is strictly for bench shooting.
Only problem now is getting use to taking my right hand off my righty rigs to work the bolt.
That model 12 lefty repeater action also doubles for my SP rigs. Left bolt and feed while keeping control of the right grip stock.

Are we getting ahead of ourselves? I don't think they have prefits for lefties. I only see them with right hand twist.

I shoot left but when benchrested I find it easier to cycle a right handed bolt gun. That's why I just bought one. I also have a tactical advantage shooting right handed pump action shotguns left handed

Yes, they do / did. To get an 6 CM Bbl. onto a LH 110T rifle I had to go through a dealer / ffl holder and they tacked on another $ 250.00 or so to the cost of the rifle.
