Bought a SS 116 action and it has a cocked indicator extension on the end of the FP. The bolt screw (for want of whatever it is properly called) is hollow like someone was going to build a bolt lift kit and decided instead to have the rear of the FP stick out through the hole.
I've never seen this before in a Savage CF. Is this new or unusual?

It is not new. They did this for a while on the 16 and 116. Not sure about other models. If I remember correctly there are 2 parts that are different from the standard set-up. The BAS and the cocking Piece. I believe Grimstod Desh makes a lift kit for it.

Hum, First for me, but I'm far from being well educated in things Savage.
As it makes for a heavier FP I am tempted to buy a complete, "normal" FP assembly, a typical lift kit, and do away with it. This project is "field portable artillery", not a hunting rifle. Little to no utility in having this feature on this rifle. Should anyone be keeping track of such things, this is a bottom release action.
And now that I have a better idea of what to search with I see this topic from the past when I wasn't finding it before.
Thank you!
