Stevens 311 .410

I was lucky to find a Stevens 311 in .410 and after loading the shells and locking the gun,the opening lever does not come back to the middle and remains far right. Is there some thing to be done to fix it.

Did it come back before you loaded the shells? Sounds like it is not closing tight on face. Is there a gap when you close it ? Extractor may be jamming. are you using the right length shells ?
