I recently picked up a Savage 10 .308, and have been debating on replacing vs simply adjusting the factory trigger (this is a pre Accutrigger model). I've adjusted several Remington triggers, and gotten them to the point that I never felt the need to swap them out...can the same be done with the 10 trigger? Any suggestions on a replacement?

Jard makes a very nice replacement trigger.

If your rifle has the old 3 screw trigger in it,you can safely adjust them down to 2-3 lbs.

For the money and ease of installation, you can't beat the Rifle Basix-1.

If you looking for the feel if a target trigger then you will want to replace it. If however a hunting trigger fits your needs then you can tune the existing trigger.

Good advice. There are some things that will make a older factory trigger better. The biggest thing about the non accutrigger is safety.

To make those old triggers work better look at cleaning up the hanger around the pivot pin hole. Shim the trigger to the point it still rotates freely but has no side to side play. Also a .040" -.041" piano wire trigger spring will lighten the pull. Make sure to keep some preload on the spring to maintain contact between the trigger and sear. Always do a bump test. I see people hit the but stock for this but the true test might be bumping the stock from underneath also.

Good luck and be safe.

Precisely what Robin said. I’ve been setting up new & used, and tuning triggers for the better part of 20 years. I have never bought an aftermarket trigger assembly for any firearm I’ve owned over 20+ years.

I believe the Jard is the only trigger worth going to, as it’s the only one that replaces the factory sear. But it’s a steep price. Just not worth the added cost to me. Now if money’s not an issue, go for it. Always has been an issue for me. Everything I do takes $$ into the equation.

Jason, Get a savage target spring and contact M-CARBO for a trigger shim kit.

His is pre-accutrigger so this does not apply.

I don't know if these will apply to your pre-accutrigger but I thought I'd link it anyway.https://triggershims.com/
