I have been having problems again with my .250 Savage 116 ejecting fired cases.
Some extract and eject just fine while most come out part way and fall off the extractor set up. I replaced the extractor once before for the same problem, so I guess I gotta order another one. Is the extractor a weak point on these Savages?

Have you checked your ejector? You might have a weak spring.

What year is your Savage?

The cases drop off right after extracted. Would a weak ejector spring be the cause of that?

I don't know the exact year, but I bought it new 8 to maybe 10 years ago.
Would the serial number help?
Byy the way, this rifle is a short action so prolly a model 16 not 116!

I just recently had an ejector spring that went bad and cases would drop as I cycled the bolt back. I had to reach in and pull the case out. Found that the spring had compressed and replacing it fixed the issue. You might want to pull the ejector and check the spring. Midway does have ejector springs and if needed, ejector pins.

I would have suggested the same. Also replace the extractor ball with the larger one.

Gunshack and Kinney's gives you a full rebuild kit.
Can also get them from Brownell or Midway.

Everyone seems to be out of stock on these kits. Any other sources I could try?

Just checked Midway. They have stock ejector springs, pins and extractor parts in stock.

Is the oversized ball .125 or .140? I can't remember anymore. I may have the ball if you pm me your address.

The standard is 1/8th and the oversized 9/64th.

Thats what I thought. I measured mine after I posted that. I have some of the 9/64 (.140") if the OP needs it.

I would surely like to try a larger ball and see what that does. I'll pm you my address.

That took longer than I thought it would. Glad you got it.

Put the 9/64" ball in yesterday along with a new extractor and spring that I got from Savage. The case would not extract at all! I suspect that the tolerance with the larger ball did not allow the extractor to slip over the case rim? I replaced the 9/64" ball with a 1/8" ball that Savage also sent, and the cases eject fine now again. I'm an old man and forgot that I had run into this same extraction problem last year. replaced the extractor, spring and 1/8" ball then too. All worked well since last July and then the problem crept up again that resulted in my original post of 5/9/20. If this happens again, I'll try replacing the ejector spring and pin. Thanks for all the help for a feeble old man with a poor memory!
