I have a Savage threaded bull barrel .17 HMR 93R17 BTVSS TBS that is an absolute tack driver, but when I recently went to attach my suppressor to its threaded barrel I was surprised to find that the threads are not 1/2 28. I believe they are 1/2 20, but does anyone happen to know what the threads are so I can buy an adapter?

I did a bit of Googling. Everything I found indicates it is 1/2 X 28.

I exhausted my Google skills trying to find the thread pitch to no avail. Here’s a shot of the threads with another rifle (blued barrel) threaded in 1/2 x28. It looks like my Savage is 1/2 x20 to me:

Hi Rye - I have a Sav-64 with flash hider, and its a 1/2 x 20, so i'd guess yours is too. 8mm is right, I got a 3-pk for about $2 CDN.

I followed your advice and picked up a precision thread pitch verification tool (a $.55 nut), and confirmed that it is 1/2x20. Thanks for the help!

Glad it worked.
