View Full Version : Mill the front of receiver or use factory recoil lug?

As the Axis uses a cut out in the front of the receiver for a stock mounted recoil lug rebarreling is a little different than with the regular 10/110 models.

Option A would be to leave the receiver alone, rebarrel and use the stock mounted lug.

That would be simple and inexpensive but is the mating as secure as a barrel mounted lug?

Is accuracy affected?

Option B involves machining off the front of the receiver so a regular lug can be installed and removing the factory style lug from the stock.

A little more time/labor intensive and an added expense.

Is there a payoff in accuracy?

Other things to consider?

I would prefer to have 360 degrees of contact.

It’s an axis. Save your coin and time.

I was going to say that but some like the axis

I am the proud owner of 3 half minute Axis rifles , I once pondered milling the action as above member said to use 110 style lug - but even though the Axis may be cheap the design is a good one and accurate as any

Agree. They’re a fine action but let’s not go overboard on them. They are what they are

Well I don't shoot "pills" or think about "thou", but mine still shoot pretty good somehow....but not "all day long".
