I am very new to guns, so please do not mock me too harshly. I took apart my new savage axis II .243 today to lessen the accutrigger pull, only when I went to put the stock back on, the trigger assembly isn’t fitting the way it should. What am I doing wrong?

Looks like the trigger assembly/ear is hanging up somewhere pull it back apart to see where it was jamming up. Carefully lower the action into the stock and make sure everything is sitting tight and level before inserting and tightening the screws. Screws should be torqued between 30 and 65 inch lbs. You may have to play with that at the range to see where the best accuracy is at.

No need to apologize--stuff happens. you might want to check your recoil lug and make sure it is seated properly and aligning with the stock slot and gap between barrel and receiver. Don't bother doing anything with screws until you get the receiver to seat freely into the stock--then carefully follow the directions in your manual for proper torquing of the receiver screws. Can't tell for sure--but maybe you have the hammer cocked and safety on?

Did one of the pins fall out of the trigger assembly? Or it could be that one of the pins slid to one side and is interfering with the stock.
