Yesterday I picked up a 23a s/n 619XX. Someone years ago added a touch of nice engraving on top of the barrel/receiver at the rear and ahead of the ejection port. It was inlet for what I guess is the 42SS peep. Currently, it has aftermarket iron sights which I want to replace. Did Savage offer a standing or folding leaf sight? That is, not the long sight with elevator. The current long sight covers the engraving, so I would like something short until I find a peep.

Well, dang. I was putting the rifle into a sock later on and noticed that the area under the rear sight isn't engraved, so I'll just keep the sights for now. But I would still like to know if there was more than one type of rear sight oferred.
