View Full Version : 1st Attempt @ Turning a tupperware stock into a "custom" job.....PICS>>>

Well.....Here is my first attempt. What do you guys think? Is it acceptable? I learned a whole lot about fiberglass resin and sheeting and how to apply it so my next one should be much easier and better... here is the skinny...

First, the wood had to be fitted to the stock.....

Now on to the fiberglass wrapping and sanding it all out. Not to mention filler putty....

Now to paint and assemble...It's a 111 in 300 Win Mag for the moment, going to be either a 6.5X55 SW or the AI'd version. Not sure yet...

Honestly, I am happy with my first attempt. It's going to be a paper puncher so didn't camo it. My next stock I build will probably be with my credit card! ;D Though I had a lot of fun and learned alot too....

Looks like it turned out really good.

Have you shot it since you finished it? How do the before and after groups compare?

Well.........as silly as it sounds, I haven't bedded it yet. I don't want to screw it up before I put the 6.5 barrel and sss recoil lug on it. But I will....then I'll post some range pics.

Jerry Teo has an article on long range hunting on how to do one but I like yours better very nice. Aperson could just do the front end and stiffen the stock without adding a lot of wieght super job Fred

Me too! but you can't put a price on stuff like this. I have countless things I've built either A) because I didn't have the time to wait or I thought the price wasa ridiculous for the thing or B) Because I like to make stuff or want to learn about something.

Great job, end product looks great and well thought out .........Now where did I put that scrap wood? :)

I've been toying with the idea of doing this myself. I'd do the front alot different, but I like how you did the back. I may steel that idea. lol Kinda giving me motivation to give it a try.

Excellent. it's really a good feeling when a plan comes out that nice. Just a thought if you don't plan on using a bi-pod maybe remove the swivel stud. They seem to always be in the way when your using a rest. Sooner or later you snag the rest and jerk the gun out of your hand. Oh man don't even think like that :o

If everyone "bought one and spent the rest of their time shooting" there wouldn't be a need for this forum. The Savage rifle has restored the notion of "A man and his rifle", in my eyes. The idea of doing something yourself is becoming lost.

Wow! Thank you for all the nice comments. I agree that I could buy one for 400, but I can buy lots of bullets, brass, powder & primers for that cash too! ;D I also agree that the thought of doing something for yourself has been lost it seems. I love this forum, I saw that someone else did it a while back and I thought, "dang, I can do that!" And I did. I think that is the spirit of Savage too, to make a $800-1000.00 rifle shoot with the $2000-3000 jobs makes me giggle with delight and joy!!!! ;D

It took a while but I just did it on my days off and in my spare time. I didn't get in a hurry and don't feel like I taxed myself doing it.

You motivated me to try similar with a old Tupperware stock I had laying around. Making good progress, now I really need to decide what color to paint it when it's done. It will be for bench use, so it doesn't need to blend in, in the woods. Any suggestions?

I'm thinking gloss black, with the gears of war cog and skull in red on the each side of the stock.
