I currently have my 243AI built on a 110 long action, can this be built on a short action say a 10 or 12? Any feed problems? Anyother things that i should look at?

the 243 is made for the short actions, along with the 308.

god luck

Savage made long action 243s for years. Matter of fact there was several years when every rifle was made on a long action, including .223s. Most of the long action blind mag rifles had a piece attached on the inside to shorten the internal length of the lng action mags, IIRC.

Mine is built on a Model 12, Accu-trigger, Center feed action. I ussually shoot mine single shot as the feed lips of the centerfeed mag work pretty well as a single shot adapter. As far as feeding from the mag I notice mine is a little smoother with longer bullets than with the short ones I have been running. Heck of a great shooting little round isn't it.

Thought maybe a model 12 but a 10 would work its wearing a HV brux 8 twist right now for barrel shoots lights out!

Christmas tree bulbs two block away or them big street lamps at 30 paces?

any cal but the .223 size should work. the rest are all based on the .308. may have a length problem if your seating them long.

Its sickening to think that in these economic times the retail world has to shove this out there before we all even think about sitting down for turkey and football there is no sense to it at all!

My 243AI so far is liking the 58gr V-max's but I am thinking about 62gr Varmint Grenades. I fireformed some of my loads by shooting 100gr factory loads I had left over and accuracy with those was pretty good.

Whats your powder choice for the 58vmax? Ive been using vv n140 but looking for alteratives. Whats ur oal? Book? Shorter?

My reciepe as of now is as follows:

58gr. V-Max over 44.0gr of Varget, Federal 210 LR Primer, no crimp on bullet, neck sized only, seated ot O.A.L. of 2.650
I use the Lee collet die to neck size, and the Lee 243 Dead Length Seating Die.

I am going to work up to a warmer powder charge in due time, but this one is giving good accuracy and I am no where near warm enough to have any problems, so I am gonna stick with it through the winter since it is a proven load and should work fine on coyotes and crows and whatever else.

As far as accuracy goes, I was shooting my last groups witha Caldwell 6"-9' bipod on the front and just my shoulder at the back, off the range bench and i fired the first three and I could completly cover them up with the base of a 243 brass, i went on to shoot 7 more for a total of 10 shots that were completly covered up by a quarter, a nickle almost covered all ten but the edges of a couple were showing. I kinda thought not to bad concidering it wasn't that great of a rest situation. All that was at 100yds.

I would like to seat them out longer but I have the delema of the 58's being a short bullet and keeping OAL to a max and still having some bullet in the neck. i may experiment a bit with RL15 as i have plenty on hand and the burnt rate is close to varget. The previous owner of my barrel said his best load was with a 70gr Blitzking and RL17, so i may give RL17 a try if the RL15 doesn't pan out. But so far Varget is working and Varget is very resistant to temperature issues.
