Hello all - found your forum researching information on my Dad's old Savage 340. Going to upgrade the mount to a Square-B, upgrade the 40+ year old scope, and have the stock refinished.

This rifle barrel is stamped "Springfield Model 340." Seems like everyone refers to their 340s with a letter, like 340C for example. Anyone tell me a little about the Springfield designation?
