I'm new to this forum. I shoot a savage 12FV in 223 cal. It shoots ok but I think it has potential to shoot better. I am wondering if anyone has any advise for me. I'm retired so I'm on a tight budget. I reload my own ammo and have tried several different loads. Since it has a 1-9 twist, the lighter bullets work better and am currently using IMR 4895 powder behind a 53 gr. VMAX. I can get sub moa shots at 100yrds but I think it will do better.

Use the search feature. Long threads on this topic.
I like the 77gn smk not because the accuracy at 100yds but its ability to bang MOA steel at 600yds

The 55gn sgk or Hornady varmint 60gn have produced .5moa accuracy at 100. On good groups.

With the slow twist in the barrel, I cant get heavier bullets to group well. My AR has a 1-7 twist. it shoots the 70grs great (rock chucks at 500+). The 1-9 barrel on my savage does a lot better with the lighter bullets.
