I’m getting addicted to these 80% receivers! I like machining & building more than I like shooting. After building so many of these over the years, starting just after the Billary Clinton AWB expired in 2004, I’ve found the secrets of buying very high quality parts, direct from the machine shop manufacturers. (Instead if searching for the big names). The result is the AR15s I build now, are truly from ME!

Here is the 80% lower being machined.

And completed Lower.

Upper during assembly. For every one of my builds, I now uses Nitrided part for any that deal with hot chamber gases/pressure...the Barrel, Flashhider, Gas Block & Tube, BCG. ALL Nitride treated.

And completed rifle. Haven’t decided on which stock, and I’ll likely swap in a Magpul MOE pistol grip.

Nice job Dave. With that mill you should try a side charger.

Thank you guys.

I’ve tossed that idea around a couple times Robin. But, I’ve just never minded the rear charging handle. In fact, I’ve really come to appreciate every design feature of the rifle. Another, and larger reason is I’ve been building them since ‘05, and the many years and many, MANY builds has brought me to using a set list of parts on every AR now. While so many others are focusing on BRAND names, BCM, Larue, LMT, Wilson...I’ve searched out the sources-the machine shops actually making the vast many parts. So I’ve put together my own list of favorite pats that just WORK! The BCG is one of the main players. I’ve used Azimuth BCGs for 6 years now, and would never think of changing or modifying it.

There are actually side charging handles that go in the stock setup without any change now. May have been something to consider when I trained with the AR, but there were training techniques for the rear handle, and now it does me no good anyway because well, ya know.. the One Arm thing and all, LOL!:becky:
