Has anyone used a Hornady COAL tool and comparator in the Cabela's 12FV in .223? What overall lengths are you getting for 55 and 69 grain bullets?
Thanks.

Using my homemade tool my 12FV OEM barrel was 2.270" for 53 vmax and 2.326" for Sierra 69 TMKs...

I've measured 2.361 with 69 SMKs in my 12 FV but that has over 2000 rounds through it.
Sierra 69 TMKs measured 2.370 in the same rifle.

Have the same M12FV in .223.
For the Hornady 55 grn SP I am currently at 1.840 using the same Hornady comparator. Ogive to base. About 2.205" base to tip. Though I don't endorse this measurement as an optimum jump for accuracy by no means.
Have 69 grn Hornady BTHP ready but have been stumbling through other problems and nowhere even close to even moving on to another weight.
Hope your not having the same problem I did with finding the lands, having very short leade and 'bottoming out'. Sent mine back to the factory. Since it's return, the accuracy continues to decline.

My 12FV 223, 69 TMK hits the lands at 2.421,69 SMK 2.384 this is the longest chamber for a 223 rifle. I doubt I have 500 rounds through this barrel. Bought in 2011

For this small sample size seems I had a shorter cut throat..although it shot great. My Axis .223 is even longer at 2.427" for the 69 TMKs. Contrast that with my Ruger American that comes in at 2.300" and seems to have a chamber cut to the bare minimum. It hates cheap/reman loads and they stick badly.

I use the Hornady gauge and bullet comparator. Here is a sampling of max cartridge lengths I have measured for my 223 12FV .

53gr Sierra MK HP 2.259

52gr Berger FBHP Target 2.279

69gr Sierra MK BTHP 2.310

69gr Sierra TMK 2.366
