After much research and some suggestions from members here, I gave Northland Shooters Supply a call yesterday morning. Spoke with James, and I've placed an order for a new Criterion barrel with all the fixin's for a successful swap. The best part......received a shipping notification before I left work, and if all goes well, should have a nice heavy UPS delivery on Monday!

I thought it would be cool to snap several pics along the way and document this project.....I like to tinker a lot, and consider myself fairly mechanically inclined, but hoping to show this process from a beginner's perspective......should be fun!

Thanks for the advise
Joe

Good luck! Once you break that first nut loose it's hard to stop...

Built my first about a month ago, went well too. Will be watching for your build thread. ;)

If your job is a drop in, it is as easy as pie. I had trepedations and asked a friend to come over. He is a very experienced machinist and a shooter. The whole thing took him about 1/2 hour including reinstalling my new barrel vise that I affixed backwards. I can do it now in about the same time. Good luck, go slow and ask here if you get stumped. Make sure your go and no go gauges are the same manufacturer.

Good luck and have fun.

Well....received a well packaged delivery from NSS this afternoon (really well packaged). Once the parts were removed and the styrofoam peanut flakes were removed, here is what I have (BTW....no more cell phone pics, my phone camera stinks!) Now I just need to figure out timing for everything:cool:

The ability to do this is why I really like the Savage platform.
Good luck on your build.

It appears the photo I posted yesterday has disappeared...do I need to do something different when posting in the future?

I have not bought a 12FV in over 8 months...this is not helping me avoid the itch.
