I put together a new rifle for my youngest son. Action was T&T by SSS 10+ years ago that had been his 223. Wears a SSS Competition trigger. Picked a lightly used Shilen select match 270 heavy sporter. Stock is older Boyd's varminter stock I had. Bushnell 4200 3-9x in Burris Signature Zee rings. This is our first 270W so I don't own any dies yet. Over the counter Hornady Whitetail 130 gr. It is a little strange buying store ammo. Haven't done that in 20 years expect for RF. Label stays 1.6" high at 100 yds = 0.0 at 200 yds. It is dead on for drop. Fired one shot 100 yds. Made a scope adjustment and then shot a 3 shot group at 0.7" with a 12-15 mph crosswind at 45-55 degrees. Handed it over to junior - junior is a 6'1" 185 lb 17 yr old. It was time to move on from the 223 starter rifle. Junior shot a 1/2" group at 100 yds. We then backed up to 200 yds and he held dead on for a 3 shot group (pictured). Right at 1". Total of 10 shots fired. Project complete. It was a fun build. Don't know why I never build a 270W before.

Happy Thanksgiving to all,
Tim

Nice build
It is always "nicer" when you are building one for the kids!
Thanks for sharing

Very cool! I’ve been building firearms since ‘05, and of all the many, many rifles & pistols I’ve done, the rig I built for my son remains my favorite. An AR15, 16” in 5.56. He was 16 at the time, and is now an accomplished AR builder himself. (Not that they are really any different from assembling LEGOS that is!)

Sharing this hobby with our sons & daughters is a truly magical thing I encourage. It feeds a life long bond and I am thankful to The Lord for this gift.
